Raised Bit Bevels

James P. Kelly Patented Bevels

The "Raised Bit" or "Sunken Blade" design was patented by James Paul Kelly, brother of William C. Kelly, in 1898 while the Kelly Company was operating out of Alexandria, Indiana. The design gave rise to a number of lines like the Chippewa Chief, the Knot Chopper, and the Silver Eagle. The design was last used in production for the company in 1941.
