African Pattern
The African Pattern is a seldom seen, but very distinct pattern. The poll is quite short, though the cheeks and entirety of the head are quite long. The bit is convex and generally pointed on the toe and heel.
The attached diagram was taken from the silhouette of the African Pattern noted in the Douglas Axe Manufacturing Company’s catalog from 1877.
(As always, please remember that there is significant variance in the patterns made by different manufacturers, and this description is merely a guide for assistance in identification.)
